Keeping In Touch When Away From The Office

Wherever you work, from a serviced office in London to a furnished workplace in Edinburgh, you’ll know how important it is to stay in touch with everyone around you. From colleagues and subordinates to customers and clients, effective streams of communication are vital. Even when out and about around the country, you simply have to remain in contact as often as possible.

They say that many of the best business deals have been struck on the golf course, and this remains one of the more popular places for a little networking. The game provides the ideal opportunity to enjoy a little sport while at the same time talking commerce, and now that we live in a world of instant communication it’s possible to contact others to pass on information or to make enquiries on behalf of golfing partners.

Get on the phone

The modern mobile phones are so much more than gadgets for talking to others, of course, and in recent times they have become a hugely important business accessory. The opportunity to indulge in some enjoyable corporate activities, such as attending football matches, race meetings and seminars, should never be refused, of course. And now that business interaction can be done from a hand-held, pocket-sized machine, there’s no detriment to the efficiency of one’s working day. Call handling can also be used in order to have someone else answer the phone for you!

In previous years, many people would work remotely thanks to their trusty laptops, but there were many drawbacks in this. Perhaps the most obvious of them is the need to carry a heavy, cumbersome unit around at all times. It wasn’t always practical, because a laptop is, by definition, only a slightly smaller version of a full-sized personal computer. With all things technology related, however, things can and do change very quickly.

The tablet IS the future – until some more future comes along

The invention and development of the tablet computer now means anyone can stay in constant touch with the office, can interact with clients and can deal with customers instantly. These amazing business machines are a fraction of the size of a traditional laptop, yet they are incredibly powerful, enabling users from just about any location at all to liaise with colleagues, contact and deal with customers and to interact with clients.

Over the past year or so, the cost of tablet computers has dropped, allowing more and more business users to get on the bandwagon. In the coming decade, the way we work may well change beyond all recognition. Working from home has become increasingly popular in recent years, and this trend is highly likely to continue. Apart from the convenience, there is also the question of ecology. Anyone who works from home for a day is making a big difference to his or her carbon footprint.

Although there are still times when workers will need to make their journeys into the office, the likelihood is that this will happen less and less often. The workplace of tomorrow may even end up being nothing more than just a virtual office.
